Until 23 December 2022, investment from countries other than the European Union (“EU”) member states was not comprehensively regulated in the Slovak Republic nor was any cooperation between the EU member states and the European Commission (“EC”). This deficiency was remedied by the approval and publication of the new Act No 497/2022 Coll., on the screening of foreign investments and on amendments and supplements to certain acts (hereinafter referred to as “Act”), which introduced a comprehensive mechanism for the screening of foreign investments from non-EU member states in the Slovak Republic (“SR”).
