About the Webinar:
This webinar will address the growing trend of courts requiring attorneys to participate remotely in light of COVID-19 related restrictions. The presenters will discuss strategies to best prepare for and maximize effectiveness in remote depositions and court proceedings, or how to avoid such proceedings altogether. Emphasis will be placed on corporate representative depositions and motion hearings.
Panelists:
PATRICK HAGGERTY is chair of ALFA International member firm Frantz Ward’s Litigation Practice Group in Cleveland, Ohio. He represents clients in a wide range of litigation related issues and serves as national coordinating and national trial counsel for companies facing significant exposures. He has extensive experience in designing and coordinating defense strategies and investigation efforts for clients ranging from closely held corporations to Fortune 100 companies. Pat created the firms Cannabis Law and Policy Group in response to the increasingly complex issues surrounding the legalization of medical marijuana and hemp. Pat is designated Best Lawyers’ “Lawyer of the Year” in Mass Tort Litigation/Class Actions-Defendants (2020) in Cleveland and is regularly named to The Best Lawyers in America and Ohio Super Lawyers list. He is consistently rated AV Preeminent, the highest ranking, for attorney professional and ethical excellence by Martindale-Hubbell. Pat remains firmly rooted in his community by serving on several nonprofit Board’s and regularly provides pro bono representations to individuals and groups.
ROBERT G. SMITH is a shareholder with ALFA International member firm Lorance Thompson PC in Houston, Texas. Rob is on the steering committee for the ALFA International Product Liability & Complex Torts Practice Group and has presented at multiple ALFAI events. In the International Association of Defense Counsel, Rob currently serves as the vice chair of Programs and Projects for the Medical Defense & Health Law Committee, and he is a member of the Product Liability and Business Litigation Committees. Rob has defended manufacturers (heavy equipment, durable medical equipment, sporting goods), health care providers, and other businesses, both large and small, in litigation as well as assist with contractual and transactional matters. Rob graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in mathematics from Louisiana State University and attended law school at the University of Houston College of Law. He is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and has tried a wide variety of cases during his 24+ years of practice.
MICHAEL SULLIVAN is a trial lawyer with ALFA International member firm Gibson, McAskill & Crosby, LLP in Buffalo, New York. He joined the firm in June of 2006. His practice includes trucking industry defense for a wide array of transportation companies and carriers. He is admitted to practice in the State of New York and all New York federal district courts. Michael has tried and resolved cases throughout New York State. Michael is a graduate of Fordham University and he received his Juris Doctor from State University of New York at Buffalo. Michael is a member of TIDA and TLA and is a graduate of the International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Counsel Trial Academy.
