Leah acts for Australian and international clients in the software and digital technology space and has experience in advising clients on their obligations under the Australian privacy and cybersecurity legislation. Having acted for clients who are information technology providers and others who are customers, Leah understands software contracting and the privacy, data use and protection, and cybersecurity issues that arise in traditional software and SaaS offerings.

Leah also has experience in the defence sector, particularly in export controls regulation and the Safeguarding Australia’s Military Secrets approval regime.
With a background in environmental law, Leah has helped clients in advising on legal issues arising in water and water trading, site contamination, mining, waste management, native title and Aboriginal heritage.

Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Expertise:
- Advising a client with respect to data protection compliance from an Australian and GDPR law perspective in respect of the client’s saas offering to customers located in Australia and internationally.
- Advising a client in relation to cross-border transfers of data from an Australian and New Zealand privacy law perspective.
- Advising a US-based client on the application of the Australian Security of Critical Infrastructure Act 2018 (Cth) to the client in relation to the personal information held by the client in providing critical software platforms to a large Australian customer.
- Advising a large not-for-profit client in relation to data management and privacy concerns where client required in course of business to hold significant amounts of personal information.
- Review and drafting data protection agreements and privacy policies.
- Member of Cowell Clarke’s AI Committee.
