Juan Ignacio Zapata is the managing Partner of Bolet & Terrero’s Bolivia office. He has over 20 years of experience in international and domestic practice and his expertise covers intellectual property and commercial law.
Much of his time is devoted to counseling and litigating trademark, patent and copyright matters as well as most IP aspects of corporate transactions. Clients rely heavily on Juan Ignacio’s specialized legal opinions that offer decisive, realistic and actionable legal advice that give clients the best chance of success.
His IP practice is multifaceted and he is also experienced in distribution, agency and franchising agreements as they relate to IP transactions.
In addition to his IP practice, Juan Ignacio advises clients on corporate and commercial transactions, including in-depth legal analysis to evaluate and recommend the best legal options for clients regarding their commercial paper transactions, secured transactions, securities, commodities, joint ventures, and mergers & acquisitions.
He is also well versed in transnational civil litigation and has advised on judicial jurisdiction, choice of law and other legal issues that arise out of international disputes. Further, his experience with both civil and common law systems allows him to offer counsel tailored to the legal background of the client.
Juan Ignacio represents a wide array of clients that range from pharmaceutical corporations, aviation companies, chemical entities to milling, telecommunications or financial institutions.
He publishes regularly in the field of Intellectual Property Law and contributes to both European and American legal publications on current legal issues. He participates in various seminars, and is, on occasion, guest speaker in forums such as the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition, the National Intellectual Property Association or ITechLaw.
