Congratulations to Founding Shareholder J.R. Murphy and Partner Megan Walker on an outstanding outcome in the South Carolina Supreme Court last week. The court unanimously reversed the lower court rulings and issued a clear and concise opinion limiting reimbursements under MedPay and PIP coverage to the amounts a medical provider is actually paid for rendering service to an insured instead of the “sticker price” that was argued by the opposing party in this case. The decision will have a meaningful impact on MedPay claims in South Carolina including the dismissal of a class action and numerous other lawsuits that were filed against a number of insurance companies in the wake of the lower court ruling.
