After a week-long jury trial, J&B shareholder Caroline Vickrey and associate Nick Sandowski obtained a not guilty verdict in Cook County before Judge Robert Harris for clients, LivHome, Inc., and Randi Israel. The matter involved allegations of general negligence, failure to warn, and negligent infliction of emotional distress brought by a home health care provider employed by Home Care Assistance of Greater Chicago. The Plaintiff claimed her hands were injured by forced excessive use of hand sanitizer during the COVID-19 pandemic. She alleged the Defendants, who are home health care managers, supplied and forced her to use Jewel-brand hand sanitizer up to 140 times per day when caring for a client. The original complaint also included product liability claims against Jewel and other companies, alleging that the hand sanitizer was defective. Those claims settled before trial. The jury deliberated for 50 minutes before returning a not guilty verdict for both LivHome and Israel. Congratulations Caroline and Nick!
