While we may have learned all we really needed to know in kindergarten, Mrs. Parker, my kindergarten teacher, had not heard of email. While technology has allowed us to be quicker and more efficient, it robs us of the time to be thoughtful and contemplative. Please use the ALFA International 2020 International Client Seminar to take a deep breath, put in perspective technological “advances,” consider how we treat each other in the digital age and inject some humanity into the new fight against the machine. This seminar, or perhaps “retreat,” is the perfect time to work on fostering important relationships. The presentations all follow a theme of how technology has changed our world and, more specifically, our work lives. The trick to maintaining our sanity is to progress and evolve with the technology. I think we will find that a little old-fashioned “talking amongst ourselves” is the way to cope.
