2018 Webinar: Navigating Social Media in the Workplace
October 9, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
The Labor & Employment Practice Group hosted a webinar on October 9, 2018, at 12:00pm central, entitled “Navigating Social Media in the Workplace.”
About the Webinar:
Social media is here to stay, and it is growing rather than slowing. It no doubt impacts the workplace. Employers now have a multitude of social media applications to discover information, intentionally or unintentionally, about candidates and employees. But, does the employer want the headache or the legal risk of obtaining information that once before was not so easily accessible? Employers must navigate the legal and business landmines associated with information at our fingertips. Privacy issues, National Labor Relations Act issues–even for the non-unionized employer–and other law and policy issues are implicated with social media. During this webinar, ALFA International attorneys Candace Bankovich and Celia Pauli will explore the pros and cons associated with social media and how to avoid legal pitfalls.
Candace Bankovich strives to be a valued business partner for each and every client. As the Chair of Lewis Wagner’s Labor and Employment Law Practice Group, Candace utilizes her experience as former General Counsel for a number of privately held and publicly traded corporations to provide the client service and practical advice that businesses seek. Candace has extensive experience providing proactive prevention counseling on significant employment issues such as employee discipline and termination, employment policies and practices, reductions in workforce, and union avoidance. She frequently works with clients to provide training on employment and management topics and ensures businesses are protected through the use of tailored employment, non-compete, confidentiality and independent contractor agreements when necessary. When legal action is unavoidable, Candace defends businesses of all sizes against employment-related claims, including employment discrimination, wage disputes, wrongful termination, and unfair labor practices. Candace’s diverse background in business allows her to provide focused and strategic advice during federal and state agency investigations and litigation.
Celia Pauli is committed to providing her clients with creative problem solving and zealous advocacy. Celia aggressively defends businesses against employment-related claims, while also recognizing the importance of efficient and cost-effective resolutions. She has experience in defending claims in state and federal court and before agencies, including the EEOC, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, and the Indiana Civil Rights Commission. Her goal is to be a seamless extension and integration to her clients’ business team.
