About the Webinar:

The webinar will give a statistical overview of how cybersecurity issues have impacted the hospitality and retail industry, review some of the specific technical issues, summarize a handful of relevant and noteworthy cases, and outline policy steps a company should consider in advance of a cybersecurity breach.

Panelists:

THOMAS A. CAPEZZA practices in the areas of White Collar Litigation and Investigations, Technology, Cyber and eDiscovery, Corporate Governance and Investigations, and Law Enforcement. Tom has nearly 20 years of criminal and civil investigatory and litigation experience, including eight years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney with the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of New York (Albany); three years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney with the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Michigan (Detroit); three years as Enforcement Counsel with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (NYC); and four years as an Assistant District Attorney with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. Tom has broad experience with the investigation and litigation of matters involving financial and securities fraud, health care fraud, pharmaceutical and FDA violations, cross-border crimes and violations of numerous other federal and state laws. As the General Counsel to the New York State Police, Tom also acquired extensive legislative, policymaking, litigation and investigatory experience. During his tenure with the Division of the New York State Police, Tom managed the formulation of proposed legislation, evaluated and implemented policy and legislative initiatives, managed civil litigation involving the State Police or its members, oversaw internal regulatory and compliance matters, and provided legal and ethical guidance to the Superintendent of the State Police and more than 4,500 sworn police officers. Additionally, Tom brings to all his clients the attention to detail acquired from his substantial computer science and technology experience. This experience includes designing remediation database systems for Superfund sites for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and designing computer systems for the financial services industry.

ROBERT SMITH, JR. is a shareholder of the firm Lorance Thompson, PC, the ALFA International firm in Houston, Texas. He is on the steering committee for the ALFA International Product Liability & Complex Torts Practice Group. His practice concentrates on product liability, commercial, and health care litigation, as well as negotiating and drafting contracts and other commercial matters. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Louisiana State University, and his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center. Licensed for over 20 years, he is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is also active in the Product Liability, and Medical Defense and Health Law Committees in the International Association of Defense Counsel.

JEREMY WARD is an ALFA Construction and Product Liability Practice Group member with the Tulsa, Oklahoma firm of Franden | Farris | Quillin | Goodnight + Roberts. He routinely represents companies on claims based on product liability, catastrophic incidents and accidents, construction defects, and professional negligence to include cybersecurity incidents. He is special counsel for the boards of the Tulsa Metropolitan Utility Authority, Tulsa Utility Board, and Regional Metropolitan Utility Authority.  He has been recognized as a Super Lawyer Rising Star since 2011. Jeremy is AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell and is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in Oklahoma and Arkansas, the Northern District of Oklahoma Bankruptcy Court, and the 8th and 10th Circuit Courts of Appeal.
