Phillips Murrah’s Paying It Forward amplifies the message of one non-profit organization each month, all year long.
Since December of 2020, Phillips Murrah has partnered with Oklahoma NPR radio station KGOU to sponsor broadcast announcements each month that shine a light on a selected non-profit organization. Our aim is to amplify each beneficiary organizations’ needs and goals, and to help increase awareness, drive volunteer quality and quantity, assist in fundraising support, and improve capacity to deliver service to the community. In December 2022, Phillips Murrah expanded the reach of our Paying it Forward partnership to include NPR’s other OKC radio station, KOSU.
Our Paying it Forward beneficiary in July 2023 is Oklahoma Foundation for the Disabled. #PIFOKC
Oklahoma Foundation for the Disabled
OKFD’s mission in central Oklahoma is to improve the quality of life for adults with specialized developmental needs. They achieve this by providing learning programs and services that include life skills training, recreational activities, and socialization inclusion opportunities in a safe, caring, and compassion-focused environment.
According to the American Bar Association, Disability Pride Month celebrates disabled persons embracing their disabilities as integral parts of who they are, reclaiming visibility in public and interacting fully with their disabilities out in the open, and rejecting shame and internalized ableism. It is a time for the disability community to come together, uplift, and amplify one another’s voices and be heard. Disability pride has been described as “accepting and honoring each person’s uniqueness and seeing it as a natural and beautiful part of human diversity.”
