Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (Calgary, Canada) Advised Norway House Cree Nation in Its Shareholder Activism Win that Led to the Purchase of the Minago Mine from Flying Nickel for $8 million

BLG recently acted as corporate counsel for Norway House Cree Nation (NHCN), one of the biggest Indigenous communities in Manitoba, in its shareholder activism win that led to the purchase of the Minago Nickel Platinum Group Elements Project. This mining project, located within the Norway House Traditional Territory, will play a significant role in the long-term economic development for NHCN and the surrounding communities.

BLG is pleased to have worked with TDS as Manitoba counsel and together help NCHN acquire control over the development of critical minerals within its core territory. This transaction is a notable example of recent innovations in economic reconciliation in the mining sector. By acquiring control of mineral claims on its traditional territory, NHCN is working to focus on the environment while creating multi-generational jobs and economic prosperity for the community.
