Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young LLP (HPTY) was founded in 1963 in Atlanta, Georgia as a small boutique litigation law firm. HPTY now serves as a full-service business litigation law firm. The Firm is comprised of more than 150 lawyers with licenses in over 30 states. The Firm represents a wide range of international, national, and regional companies, consisting of numerous Fortune 500 companies, in various types of industries and each with a multitude of practice areas. For many years, HPTY has acted as national, regional, and local counsel and trial counsel for numerous corporate clients involved in litigation or related matters.
The Firm's practice areas include, but is not limited to: banking & finance, business (corporate, commercial, contract disputes, intellectual property, fiduciary law, real estate, and restrictive covenants), construction, environmental, general negligence, labor and employment (Title VII, ADEA, ADA, EPA, FMLA, USERRA, STAA, FLSA, and related matters), personal injury, premise/property, product liability, toxic tort, and many other areas.
As the Firm approaches its fiftieth anniversary, it strives to continue to provide the best value and service for its clients. HPTY has great success in working with in-house counsel and individuals, as well as risk management professionals, utilizing their resources to develop and further the common goal of successfully defending cases and insuring the role of each person involved is well understood. Once an overall defense strategy is identified, implementation is initiated from the top down, with each team member becoming a substantive participant in the development and presentation of the defense strategy. Communication is a key component to success and HPTY implements strategies and reporting mechanisms to achieve the highest level of communication required to satisfy an individual client's needs, adjusting these as required for individual cases. In addition to establishing regular reporting schedules, we implement heightened reporting requirements for cases which are considered high risk or as requested by our client. We communicate daily reports to clients throughout trials. Although we utilize electronic communication to its maximum benefit, we believe that on-going relationships are best maintained through more direct contact via regular telephone and in-person meetings. Resolution prior to trial is our goal; however, in the event a claim cannot be amicably resolved, HPTY provides experienced first chair trial lawyers, partners, and associates with the necessary expertise to defend any case.
HPTY holds memberships and/or affiliations with the American Bar Association Defense Research Institute, International Association of Defense Counsel, Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel, National Association of Women Lawyers, Trial Lawyers of America, ALFA International, and many other networks. Since 1988, HPTY has maintained membership in ALFA International,
