SUMMARY:Reduce Litigation Risks by Incorporating Resiliency into the Built Environment
DESCRIPTION:The Construction Law Practice Group hosted a complimentary webinar on April 25\, 2024\, at 12:00 p.m. Central Time titled\, “Reduce Litigation Risks by Incorporating Resiliency into the Built Environment.” CLE credit can be acquired in most states for this webinar. \nClick HERE to view the webinar recording.\n\nWebinar Materials: \n\nWebinar PowerPoint\nWebinar Agenda\n\nAbout the Webinar:\nConstruction litigation is expensive and time-consuming\, involving multiple parties pointing fingers at each other for project delays\, problems with the installation process and/or defects in the final product. These problems will only increase as climate change makes designing and constructing the built environment more challenging\, thereby increasing the risks of litigation. All parties involved in a construction project\, however\, can take steps to reduce these risks by analyzing and addressing the potential climate-change-related issues that could arise in their region\, from extreme rain events and extreme heat to flooding and sea level rise at the beginning of a construction project. This webinar will explain the difference between resiliency and sustainability\, why resiliency is important and how it can be incorporated into your next project. \nSpeakers:\nJESSICA MEDERSON is a partner and member of the Board of Directors with Stafford Rosenbaum LLP\, the ALFA International member law firm in Madison and Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. Jessica litigates business and construction matters in state and federal courts across the United States\, focusing her practice on construction and manufacturing defect disputes\, Uniform Commercial Code litigation\, contract disputes\, director/officer and shareholder litigation\, employer-side employment litigation and dealership litigation. A commercial litigator for over 20 years\, Jessica spent her first decade practicing law in Texas at Vinson & Elkins and Bracewell before making the move to Wisconsin. She also advises corporate clients on contractual negotiation issues and employment law and has extensive experience with both e-discovery issues\, including cross-border discovery and attorney-client privilege issues. She writes\, presents and advises businesses nationally on addressing resiliency in construction projects and business operations and is certified for entry into OSHA Permit-Required Confined Spaces. \nCLEMENTINE UWABERA is a partner with Stafford Rosenbaum LLP\, the ALFA International member law firm in Madison and Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. Specializing in litigation and municipal law\, Clementine represents clients in various areas\, including commercial disputes\, construction matters\, tort and civil rights defense\, insurance coverage\, product liability\, personal injury and wrongful death cases. She also co-authors publications for the Wisconsin Bar Association on topics such as Trade Secrets\, Tortious Interference with Contractual Relations and the Litigation Forms Manual. Clementine currently serves as the President-Elect of the Dane County Bar Association and recently achieved a National Black Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 honor. She is licensed to practice law in Wisconsin\, the Eastern and Western District Courts of Wisconsin and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
