DESCRIPTION:The Business Litigation Practice Group hosted a complimentary webinar on May 16\, 2018\, titled: “The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR): What It Means for US Businesses” \nClick here to view the webinar recording. \nWebinar Materials:\n\nALFA GDPR Webinar (combined slides)\n\nAbout the Webinar: \n\n This panel discussion will highlight the information that U.S.-based businesses and firms need to know about GDPR in advance of the Regulation’s May 25th effective date\, including applicability and key steps necessary toward compliance. \n\nPanelists: \nDEVIN CHWASTYK leads the Privacy & Data Security Group at McNees Wallace & Nurick and has practiced in the firm’s Harrisburg\, Pennsylvania office since 2003.  Devin advises businesses on privacy policies and practices.  He assists the firm’s clients in taking proactive measures\, including the creation of data security policies and breach response plans\, to reduce their risk of data exposure and limit liability should it occur.  He has counseled dozens of entities victimized by data breaches in meeting their obligations under state\, federal\, and international laws.  Devin holds the Certified Information Privacy Professional designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals\, and regularly speaks and writes on privacy and data security issues.  His practice otherwise is focused on complex commercial litigation in federal and state courts throughout Pennsylvania and around the country.\n\nMICHAEL GLADSTONE is a Director in the litigation department at McCandlish Holton PC\, in Richmond VA.  His practice primarily involves commercial and catastrophic tort dispute resolution and litigation. He also regularly counsels businesses and individuals regarding US  immigration. As co-chair of the Firm’s Technology Committee he is responsible for firmassessment of\,  and compliance with\,  sound data protection and security practices\, including compliance with the GDPR.\n\nSARA HENRIQUES is partner at SPS Advogados\, where she started her career in 2003. With an outstanding ability of customer care\, and her dynamic spirit of engagement with the client\, she advises mostly in the Commercial Law and Data Protection areas. Sara has acted increasingly in the personal data protection area\, providing legal assistance to a variety of companies\, namely in the health\, retail and financial sectors. During 2017\, her main projects are relative to GDPR assessment. She has also accumulated experience in merger & acquisitions and corporate & commercial transactions in different areas such as the food industry\, health sector and automotive industry. Sara has a law degree from the University of Lisbon Law School\, a post-graduate degree in Commercial Law from the University of Coimbra Law School\, a post-graduate degree in Consumer Law from the University of Lisbon Law School and recently achieved a Certification for Data Protection Officer (DPO) from the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA)\, Maastricht\, one of the few certifications for this area existing in Portugal.
