Two partners in ALFA member firm Wright, Lindsey & Jennings LLP received top awards from the Arkansas Bar Association and Arkansas Bar Foundation at the Foundation’s Fellows Dinner on June 7, 2006, held in conjunction with the Association’s Annual Meeting. Gordon Rather was named the 2006 recipient of the Outstanding Lawyer Award given “in recognition of excellence in the practice of law and outstanding contributions to the profession,” and Bettina Brownstein was named the 2006 recipient of the Outstanding Lawyer-Humanitarian Award, a special award given periodically when deemed appropriate “to recognize outstanding humanitarian service” by a lawyer.
Ms. Brownstein recently returned from a seven-month residency in the Republic of Georgia, where she participated in the American Bar Association’s Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative to aid the Republic of Georgia in reforming its post-communist democratic legal system. She previously received the 2001 Distinguished Service Award from the American Civil Liberties Union and has previously served as President of Planned Parenthood of Greater Arkansas and of Arkansas Coalition for Choice. For over ten years she has served as General Counsel of Planned Parenthood of Eastern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas and as a cooperating attorney with the ACLU of Arkansas and the Center for Reproductive Law and Policy. Ms. Brownstein is a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment Team.
Mr. Rather previously received the Outstanding Lawyer Award from the Pulaski County Bar Association (2000) and the Masters in Trial Award from the American Board of Trial Advocates (1994). He is a Fellow in the Arkansas Bar Foundation, the American Bar Foundation, the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. In 1996 he served as National President of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is named in The Best Lawyers in America; in Chambers USA, America's Leading Lawyers for Business; and in The Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America. Mr. Rather currently serves as leader of the firm’s Trial Practice Team.
